  • What is the time difference in South Africa?

    South Africa does not change its clocks during the year, and there are no regional variations within the country. South Africa standard time is:

    • (+2) Greenwich mean

    • (+1) central European winter time

    • (+7) USA’s eastern standard winter time

  • What is the weather like?

    The climate of this the Limpopo region is renowned for its hot but pleasant summers and mild sunny winters.

     

    Mogalakwena normally receives about 550mm of rain per year, with rainfall occurring during the wet season (November to March).

     

    Mogalakwena is the hottest in December – January and the coldest in June - July when temperatures can drop to 0°C during the night.

  • What should I wear on safari?

    While on safari at Mogalakwena reserve, it is wise to choose casual clothing in neutral, camouflage colours (brown, khaki, stone or beige) which will make you less visible and able to get closer to the wild animals you may want to see. We would also recommend comfortable and practicable walking shoes. Trainers are fine for safari walks

    For morning and afternoon excursions we recommend a jumper, fleece or warm jacket, as the winter months from may to august (dry season) can be chilly. For evening dinners, depending on the season, a pullover or cardigan is advisable.

    It’s a good idea to bring a hat, sunglasses and sun block for all seasons as it can be hot during the day particularly between 10am and 2pm.

     

    You can wear whatever you like around the lodge and lounge areas. We recommend that you bring a couple of smart-casual outfits for dinner, however jacket and tie are not required!

  • Do I require a visa to visit South Africa?

    For the majority of foreign visitors who travel to South Africa for vacation, entry is straightforward and hassle-free. All visitors to South Africa must be in possession of a valid passport in order to enter the country and in some cases, a visa.

    The department of home affairs’ website will provide you information on: which types of visa you need, how and where to apply, visa requirements, visa costs & delay, etc.

     

    Countries exempt from visas for an intended stay of 90 days or less and when in transit.

  • Is malaria a problem in Mogalakwena area?

    No. Mogalakwena is a low-risk malaria area.

    However, during the wet season and due to the proximity of the river, mosquitos are abundant and we recommend you to bring some repellent in your luggage.

     

    Our River Lodge Chalets and Artist's Retreat rooms include mosquito nets.

  • Do I need to take any special medical precautions?

    No, we are a malaria free area and have access to professional medical facilities within half an hour. You only need to bring your personal medical needs.

  • Do I need to get any vaccination?

    There are no compulsory vaccinations for South Africa required for travellers from western Europe to gain entry.

    Currently, the only mandatory vaccine is yellow fever for travellers arriving from a country at risk for yellow fever or in transit for more than 12 hours at an airport in a country at risk for yellow fever. For them a vaccination certificate could be required.

     

    We recommend you to make sure you are up-to-date on routine vaccines before every trip. These vaccines include typhoid, diphtheria, tetanus, hepatitis, polio.

  • Can children join us on safari?

    Yes. Children are always welcome on safari at Mogalakwena when accompanied by an adult.

  • Do I need any special license to hire a vehicle?

    Non-residents are permitted to drive with a driving license issued and valid in their own country if it bears the photograph and signature of the holder and is in English.

    If your driver’s license does not meet these requirements, an international driver’s license is required.

    Driving is on the left and the wearing of seatbelts is compulsory.

  • Are transfers or pick-up available?

    Yes. We can offer transfers or pick-up from Polokwane or Louis Trichardt.

     

    As Mogalakwena reserve is located 40km outside of Alldays in the north-western part of the Limpopo province. It is a remote area and no bus services are available to Alldays or the reserve.

  • How far is the closest airport?

    The closest airport is Polokwane (Pietersburg) – 2 hours drive.

  • What type of plug adapter we need?

    In South Africa, the power sockets are of type m. The standard voltage is 230 v and the standard frequency is 50 hz. The type m plug has three round pins in a triangular pattern. You can find them in any supermarket in the country.

  • Is water safe to drink?

    Yes. All the water from the tap at Mogalakwena comes treated and is just as safe to drink and free of harmful micro-organisms as any other western country.

     

    It is also safe to eat fresh fruit and salads and to put as much ice as you like in your drinks – a good thing to do after a day in the bush.

  • What time is check in and check out?

    For all our lodges and camp, check in time is from 14:00 and check out is before 12:00.

  • What time do you serve breakfast?

    At our River Lodge and Artist’s Retreat, we serve breakfast every day from 7:00 am to 10:00.

    No breakfast included if staying at the Bush Camp.

  • Can you cater for special dietary requirements?

    Yes. You need to notify your dietary requirements at the time of booking. We do however regret to inform you that we are unable to provide meals requiring strict religious observance in the preparation.

  • Is there internet access at the lodges?

    Wifi is available at our conference centre and at the Artist's Retreat. Please note that connectivity may be limited due to our remote locations.

  • Are disabled people able to travel on safaris?

    We are able to accommodate guests with slight walking difficulties although we recommend they are accompanied. We regret that our safari vehicles are not adapted for wheelchairs and therefore our safaris are not suited for wheelchair-bound travellers.

  • What is the recommended length of stay?

    A recommended minimum period is approximately three days. The maximum length is totally up to you.

  • Do you offer specials or packages?

  • What are the accommodation rates?

  • Can I smoke on safari?

    With apologies to smokers, we operate a no smoking policy on all safari activities. Smoking is only permitted in designated areas.

  • Can I buy souvenirs or presents while on safari?

    Yes. We have a range of exclusively designed gifts, luggage, art and jewellery. Smaller items can be purchased at the River lodge or at our Craft Art Centre while larger gifts can be shipped.

  • Can I get a group discount?

    Yes. A safari is ideal for celebrating a family occasion or entertaining clients on a corporate incentive. Group discounts apply to parties of 15 or more. Safaris can also be chartered for bigger occasions, though please note the safaris are limited to 24 people.

  • Can I get married at Mogalakwena?

    Yes. Mogalakwena offers a truly unique venue for your special day. We host celebrations from simple and intimate to elaborate events of 150 guests.
