The Limpopo province is one of the poorest regions in South Africa. Owing to its predominant rural nature, a large percentage of the population lives below the poverty line and the unemployment rate reaches record levels in the country.
Through the employment we have offered within our lodge over the years, Mogalakwena has made a direct contribution to the local communities around the reserve.
At Mogalakwena, we support Matome Crèche & Pre-school through donations of clothing, educational material and toys, funds and training. It is a non-profit organisation, which supports about 50 children giving them access to early childhood development along with nutritional support and development. It consists in 1 classroom that can accommodate between 30 and 50 learners. There is no administrative equipment (which they are in desperate need of), or library.
HISTORY
Matome Crèche and Pre-School was established in January 2005. The organisation is situated in the small rural village of Simpson, Limpopo, South Africa. It started operating in the primary school for 2,5 years before moving to its current site. There were only two staff members and 45 learners between the ages of new born and five years old.
The crèche and pre-school is an early childhood development facility rendering services under its objectives.
AIM
At Matome Crèche and Pre-School we endeavour to develop children holistically with an objective to encourage language and listening skills by communicating through singing and telling stories.
PROGRAM
Physical development is encouraged by outdoor activities on swings, pushing types, rope skipping and trampoline jumping. Through socialisation they are encourage to play together and learn to share.
We provide learners with puzzles, cards and informational drawings to encourage mental development. All learners are given warmth and care for emotional development and we provide religious readings from the Bible for spiritual support.
FUNDING
The organisation receives funds from the Department of Social Development for the children’s nutrition and equipment.
